Few things are more exciting than the thrill of adventure! In our normal day-to-day lives, it can be hard to find adventure, but with a fun scavenger hunt, you don’t have to look any further than your back yard.
A backyard scavenger hunt is an extremely easy way to provide your children with the adventure they need to feel like true explorers. There are only a few things you need to make this happen.
One type of scavenger hunt we think is fun is a backyard safari. For this, you’ll need some animals to discover! You can find those here and here. Next, you’ll to take some pictures of all these animals, so your little explorer knows what they are looking for. Lastly, you’ll need a safari outfit and some tools. Now, you’re on your way to a fun backyard safari!
Hide the animals throughout your backyard. Some fun places are buried in the sandbox, hiding inside of bushes, and underneath a sleeping dog (ok, maybe not that one). Once they are all hidden, give your child the pictures of the animals they are looking for, and tell them it’s time for the scavenger hunt!
Of course, this is just one type of scavenger hunt. Keeper of the Home has a great post outlining lots of different types of backyard scavenger hunts. Go by their website and took a look!
After you’ve done a backyard scavenger hunt or two with your child, tell us about your experiences in the comment section below.
